Jobs at Walsall Council
Here at Walsall, we want to attract the best talent. That's why - as well as a satisfying and rewarding job - we offer a range of attractive benefits. Working arrangements in most jobs are flexible (you may work flexitime, full or part time and job sharing is usually available) and you can expect generous holiday entitlements, a first class pension scheme and plenty of opportunities for training and personal development.
We advertise vacancies because we want the best talent available. If that's you, we're waiting for your application.
The successful candidates for jobs in regulated activity with children or adults will be asked to apply for a disclosure and barring check through the Disclosure & Barring Service at the appropriate level. A conviction may not exclude candidates from these jobs but will be considered as part of the recruitment process. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
For appropriate roles, candidates will also require clearance under the Childcare Disqualification Regulations.
To achieve out commitment, we will ensure continuous development and improvement of robust recruitment processes and procedures that promote a culture of safeguarding amongst our workforce.
Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
For some roles successful applicants must undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check. BPSS is the minimum standard to ensure the identity and integrity of an employee who has access to official information using secure networks linking central government and local authorities. A BPSS check involves four main elements:
- Identity Check
- National and Immigration Status
- Employment History (last 3 years)
- Verification of Criminal Record (unspent convictions only)
Should a BPSS check be necessary for the role you are applying for then you will be advised during the recruitment process.
Job vacancies with other public and private sector organisations are advertised on the Universal Job Match Website. You can find the website here.
Temporary work opportunities may be available through the council's agency provider, Starting Point, and you can find their details here.
Apprenticeships are a great way to learn whilst you earn. We work closely with private sector employers to create new apprenticeship opportunities throughout Walsall.
