Supporting the people of Walsall

Walsall Works is an initiative set up by Walsall Council to support local people in finding work and accessing training.

We are open to all residents, whether you are in work or currently looking and we can provide information and guidance for employability, help with accessing opportunities and support with getting into apprenticeships and traineeships.

support

Our aim is to increase the number of people from Walsall that are in employment and to help those currently working to progress or move careers.

To help achieve this, Walsall Works provides a job brokerage service to match local vacancies with suitable and enthusiastic residents.

Once you have signed up for the programme, you will get a weekly bulletin of live vacancies sent directly to their email as well as support with increasing your chances of success when making applications, including advice, guidance and help with creating a new CV.

We have a wide range of roles available both part-time and full-time work, entry level and experienced. This can cover different sectors such as manufacturing/engineering, customer service, care, administration and construction.

To sign up for the Walsall Works programme and access the job brokerage and support, please email your CV to walsallworks@walsall.gov.uk

help

If you are a young person aged 16-24 year old and looking for the opportunity to ‘learn while you earn’, then an apprenticeship may be for you.

Apprentices are employees of a company that work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off the job, usually on a day-release basis, apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications.

Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices’ ability and the industry sector.

Walsall Works’ provide funding to local employers on the understanding that they will pay at least the national minimum wage to the apprentices, rather than the Apprenticeship Wage. This works out as;

  • 16-17 year old under Walsall Works is £3.87 per hour
  • 18-20 year old under Walsall Works is £5.30 per hour
  • 21 -24 year old under Walsall Works is £6.70 per hour

These opportunities are ideal for both recent school-leavers and people who have some work experience and are looking to change careers. By signing up for Walsall Works, we will keep you informed about current apprenticeship vacancies and can support you with applications to increase your chances.
