Employment and Skills Team
Walsall Council’s Corporate Plan sets out a key priority for the Council as ‘supporting business to thrive and supporting local people into work’.
This corporate priority is delivered through the work of the Regeneration Services Directorate. The Employment & Skills Team within this service has a responsibility to support local residents to improve their economic well-being. This is delivered through close working relationships with a wide range of partner organisations who are committed to creating sustainable employment, supporting residents to improve their skills and to help them become more employable.
The teams key priorities are:
- To analyse and understand the economic and demographic issues within the borough
- To work closely with sub-regional teams to develop strategies that improve the economic prospects of the borough
- To develop and implement services that actively support Walsall’s people improve their employability and skills
- To lead on the successful delivery of a number of programmes including Walsall Works, Talent Match, City Deal
The Employment and Skills Team takes a lead role in reducing unemployment and tackling long term worklessness in the borough. We have a shared and clear understanding of the issues and barriers facing our residents, which has been developed with agencies such as the Jobcentre Plus, Skills Funding Agency, Training Providers, and the Voluntary sector. Our joint working and shared intelligence helps us to ensure we gain the maximum benefit from mainstream funding and added value through accessing external funding.
Our aim is ensure that information about employment support is clear and accessible in one place. The information set out here will help residents identify the support and guidance available, whether it be for those looking for help with getting back into employment or those wishing to improve their skills to progress in their current workplace.
