Birth certificates


Mother with babyIf you were born in Walsall and you need a copy of your Birth Certificate you should apply to the Walsall Register Office in person, by letter or by completing our application for a birth certificate form and sending it to us at the address below. Applications can also be made over the telephone., to do this contact the regsiter office on 0300 555 2847 and select option 3.  (payment must be made at the time of the application by credt/debit card).

If you are writing to Walsall Register Office your cheque or postal order should be made payable to ‘Superintendent Registrar’ and a stamped addressed envelope should be included with your application.

if the birth did not take place in the Borough of Walsall, you will need to contact the Register Office in the area in which the birth occurred, or I you do not know this information contact  to General Register Office .

You will need to supply the following information:

  • Full name at birth
  • Date and place of birth
  • Full names of both parents
  • Mother’s maiden surname
  • Reason for application

If you do not know the date of birth then you can make an application to General Register Office . (certificate services) for a general search on the national database, or a 5 year search can be made at the Register Office covering the district where the birth took place.

If the birth did not occur in the Borough of Walsall, you will need to contact the Register Office in the area in which the death did occur, or if you do not know this contact General Register Office.

Obtaining a birth certificate after adoption

When an official Adoption Order is made, that entry on the Adopted Children’s Register supersedes any previous birth record entry. Therefore, for the purposes of obtaining official documents such as a passport or driving licence, an adopted person will need to obtain a copy of their entry in the Adopted Children’s Register.
