Armed Forces Community Covenant Grant Scheme open for applications

On Monday 24 June 2013 Walsall’s Armed Forces Community Covenant was signed by a collective partnership including the armed forces, Walsall Council, fire, police and other strategic stakeholders.

Community covenants complement, at a local level, the armed forces covenant, which outlines the moral obligation between the nation, the government and the armed forces.

The aim of the community covenant is to encourage local communities to support the service community in their area and promote understanding and awareness among the public of issues affecting the armed forces community.

As Walsall has signed up to the Community Covenant scheme local organisations are able to access the Grant Scheme established to financially support projects, at the local level, which strengthen the ties or the mutual understanding between members of the armed forces community and the wider community in which they live.

What is available?

The Grant Scheme is open to local authorities, statutory bodies and voluntary and community sector organisations, with applications invited for sums from £100 to £250,000 (larger requests may be considered in some circumstances).

To be eligible for funding, projects must demonstrate how they:

  • take practical steps to implement the Community Covenant
  • provide benefits to both the Armed Forces community (including serving personnel, ex-service personnel and their families) and civilian community

How can I make an application?

When completing the form you should consider the details of Walsall’s Community Covenant, and the terms and conditions of grant alongside the application form to ensure your organisation will be able to meet these requirements. You can also view top tips for applications here.

Submit your completed form to OwenH@walsall.gov.uk. Incomplete forms will not be considered.

Complete applications that meet the minimum eligibility criteria will be considered by Walsall’s Armed Forces Community Covenant panel who decide if the project is one they wish to support. Supported projects are then passed on to a Regional panel for a final decision on funding.
